The judge presiding over a settlement case between a Wagga Wagga woman and the Greater Southern Area Health Service over a child born with cerebral palsy has told the court no amount of money could compensate for the boy's injuries.
Kimberley Reid was given the drug misoprostol when she was in the final stages of labour in March 2001.
She has successfully sued the health service for inappropriate use of the drug and inadequate care given during labour and before her son's birth.
Joshua Reid was born with cerebral palsy and requires 24-hour care.
Justice Stephen Rothman told the Supreme Court in Wagga Wagga yesterday he is pleased both sides were able to accept a figure to meet damages involved, but no amount could compensate for the boy's injuries.
Defence counsel said Wagga Base Hospital admits responsibility and the matter is of enormous regret for everyone involved.
Outside court, Kimberley Reid said she remained very angry at the way she was treated by the hospital and said the disability Joshua was left with should never have occurred.
