ENT advised on removal of the tonsils

Assalamu alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuhu

Muja and me went to Princess Margerate Hospital for children (PMH) yesterday for her ENT appointment at Outpatients Clinic. Alhamdulillah we didn't have to wait for long. First she was called for a hearing test which is held in a special sound proof room. She did well and made some response when she heard the sounds. Her head sometime turn to where the sound came from but sometime she turn on the opposite side.

After finishing with the test we waited until the ENT doctor called us in. It was also a short wait. When we entered he welcomed us with a warm welcome. He checked her throat and ears. He mentioned about how huge is Muja tonsils. The doctor advised that there will be two benefits of removing it. One to improve the airway passage and the other helping to swallow the food. There are complicated results of the surgical removing of the tonsils. It's removal decreases the power of the immune system.

Instead of removing the tonsils, I would rather do continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) as it is a safer option. It is also the treatment of choice for sleep disorders. On the other hand there are also disadvantages of the CPAP mask include uncomfortable mask and excess sweating.

This appointment was actually a refer back from Respiratiry Department from a sleep study where Muja did a few months ago. Although I have been clear that we are not going to do the surgery, the doctor from Respiratory Department refer us back to ENT to get his advise on removing the tonsils. I am still with my decision to go with the CPAP mask and see what happens from there.

So from now, the ENT will refer us back to Respiratory Department to go for CPAP treatment.
